Finding cute plus-size workwear that is professional without being boring is harder than it should be. So many workwear collections seem to assume that we either want to dress in stiff black pants every day or hide our bodies underneath oversized, shapeless clothes.
That is not happening here.
I recently shopped at Kohl’s for fall workwear that would be perfect for teachers, office jobs, conferences, meetings or any workplace where you want to look polished but still feel like yourself. I found dresses, separates and comfortable wide-leg pants that can be mixed and matched into several completely different outfits.
A Floral Dress With a Defined Waist
This dusty rose floral dress is such an easy one-piece outfit. The print and flowy sleeves give it personality, while the defined waist keeps all that fabric from overwhelming my shape. The tiered skirt gives me plenty of room through my stomach and hips without looking shapeless.
I styled it with neutral ankle boots and a large brown tote. It would be perfect for a teacher, a casual office or any day when you need to look put together without spending ten minutes trying to coordinate separates.

A Feminine Blouse Styled Two Ways

This sage floral blouse may be the most versatile piece I found. The sheer sleeves and cascading ruffles make it feel feminine and special, but the muted floral print is still completely appropriate for work.
For the first look, I paired it with a camel-colored skirt and neutral ankle boots. The earthy colors look perfect together for early fall, even if the weather is still warm. This would be such a cute teacher outfit, but it would also work for a casual office, lunch meeting or fall family photos.

For the second outfit, I paired the same blouse with natural wide-leg pants. The lighter pants make the blouse feel softer and a little more relaxed while still looking polished.
I especially like wide-leg pants when I want something comfortable through my stomach and legs that does not look like loungewear. This outfit gives you room to move, sit and work without sacrificing style.

A Denim Blouse With Wide-Leg Pants

A denim blouse is one of those pieces that makes a work wardrobe much easier. It coordinates with almost everything, but it feels more interesting than a basic solid-colored top.
The puff sleeves and ruffled cuffs make this one feel feminine instead of utilitarian. I paired it with the same natural wide-leg pants from the previous outfit, which shows exactly why a good pair of neutral pants deserves a place in your work wardrobe.
This combination is comfortable, approachable and polished without looking overdressed. Teachers could easily wear it with flats or sneakers, while someone in an office could add loafers or a structured bag.

A Monochromatic Burgundy Work Outfit

This may be the most traditional office outfit of the group, but the rich burgundy color keeps it from feeling predictable. I paired a printed button-front blouse with a coordinating midi pencil skirt and matching pointed-toe flats.
Wearing similar shades on the top and bottom creates one long, uninterrupted line. The result feels polished and intentional, but it is still much more interesting than another black skirt and white blouse.
The blouse can also be worn untucked if you prefer more coverage through the stomach. Add a large brown tote and you have a complete outfit that works for an office, conference, presentation, parent-teacher night or important meeting.

A Comfortable Floral Midi Dress

This brown and cream floral midi dress is the outfit I would choose when comfort is the priority but I still need to look dressed up.
The relaxed sleeves, defined waist and flowy tiered skirt make it easy to wear for an entire workday. The larger floral print feels modern, and the neutral color palette gives it an expensive look.
I styled it with taupe ankle boots, but it would also look great with loafers, flats or a low heel. When the weather gets cooler, I would add a cream cardigan or brown blazer.

How to Build a Plus-Size Workwear Capsule
You do not need an entirely separate outfit for every day of the month. The smartest way to build a work wardrobe is to choose pieces that can do more than one job.
The sage floral blouse works with both the skirt and wide-leg pants. The wide-leg pants work with the floral blouse, the denim blouse and almost any basic top already in your closet. Both dresses are complete outfits on their own, but they can also be layered with cardigans, blazers and jackets as the weather changes.
A practical workwear capsule can start with one comfortable pair of trousers, one skirt, two or three blouses and two easy dresses. Change the shoes, bag and layers, and you can create far more outfits than you might expect.
Plus-Size Workwear Should Still Feel Like You
Professional does not have to mean plain, uncomfortable or completely covered in black. The best work clothes are pieces that fit your actual workplace, feel good enough to wear all day and still reflect your personal style.
Whether you are heading back to the classroom, returning to the office or simply need a few polished outfits for meetings and events, these Kohl’s finds make getting dressed much easier.
