“You can’t wear that!” Its a phrase we’ve all heard and we continue to tell ourselves. I was talking with a friend the other day about pairing a risque color on her lower half. She insisted that my suggestion was a beautiful outfit but she couldn’t bear the thought of actually wearing it. “I can’t wear color on my lower half, I’ll just stick to black slacks.” I desperately wanted to reach through the phone and shake some sense into her. But the truth is, we’ve all said it! Lets stop the body bashing and simply try something new before we rule it out!
I ordered this darling sporty chic pencil skirt from Boohoo [similar here: http://goo.gl/8AlP7R OR http://goo.gl/tzcpVZ] recently because it satisfied my craving for something new and fun, with minimal risk. This skirt is a US size 20 and it fit both me and Nicole quite well. Neither of us are wearing spanx- so while the material is a little thin [this will be perfect for summertime], it is not revealing.
Would YOU wear this?
For the first look, I paired a very simple silk bomber jacket [Lane Bryant, similar http://goo.gl/qB9lwb ], my newest favorite black peplum tank from forever 21 [similar http://goo.gl/gTfuhF%5D and a simple black flat with ankle strap [similar http://goo.gl/uE3pwI%5D.
This L.A.M.B bag is a few seasons old [I just can’t let it go] but here are a couple fab alternatives:
I styled the second look for Nicole. I’ve had this floral blazer [similar http://goo.gl/qUKOWu] for at least a year and when I realized the color was a perfect match, I just had to see how it looked with this skirt. This outfit is perfect for casual friday, if your office is color friendly. Otherwise, it would be perfect for a chilly spring evening when you want to show your girlfriends that color is your real BFF.
Nicole is wearing a beautiful gunmetal chain necklace [similar http://goo.gl/aQgeiP ]. I chose gunmetal because it pairs nicely with the jacket without being a distraction.
A black crossbody with silver chain pairs with this outfit to ad a bit of an edge without saying too much. This one is from Forever 21: http://goo.gl/l2M8QP
